The South African Paralympic team’s preparation for the 2008 Beijing Paralympics received a welcome boost thanks to a generous R3,5 million sponsorship by Sasol. The sponsorship will prove vital to the SA team’s hopes of picking up were it left of in Athens 2004 when a total of 30 medals were won.

“The South African Paralympic team has been an inspiration to all South Africans. We have been awed and motivated by these athletes’ tremendous courage and determination to succeed,” said Trevor Munday, Sasol Deputy CE.
“Sasol’s partnership is critical for the South African Paralympic team to continue improving and bringing home medals,” said Pieter Badenhorst, Chairperson of the High Performance Commission of Disability Sport South Africa (DISSA).
“Our athletes have done us proud over the years, but there is no time to rest on any laurels. The standard of Paralympic competition has improved vastly. Many nations are taking sport for people with disabilities more seriously now and this is evident from the number of participating nations and improved overall results at the Paralympics,” added Badenhorst.
