On 18 December last year the Rotary Club of George presented a beach wheelchair to the Herold's Bay community. The wheelchair is for disabled people at the tidal pool. Karl Damant, president of the George Rotary Club expressed his delight at the handover. "We view this project as an enabling tool for anyone with a disability to move around on the beach and even go into the water in this floating wheelchair. The ramp at the Herold's Bay tidal pool is ideal for this."
Support for the project came from a generous donation from the Anglican Church, the Oubaai Gholf Development who sponsored the awareness signs, the Oppie-See guest house who will host the chair, and Siyakcona Transport and Logistics, who transported the chair from Johannesburg to George. Access George, a local association that promotes access for persons with disabilities to public amenities, assisted with and approved the project. The beach wheelchair is available at Herold’s Bay from Oppie-See Guest house at no cost to the public.
