At an awards ceremony in January, the South African Sports Association for Physically Disabled (SASAPD) acknowledged the support received from Nedbank and the National Lottery. This had enabled 29 volunteers to participate in various courses to enhance their skills in coaching, classification and officiating in some of the 29 sports catered for by SASAPD.
Nedbank has funded its Technical Excellence programme for 10 years, helping many sports officials to improve their qualifications. The National Lottery funded a capacity building project for disability dancing and the development of athletes, coaches and officials in all disabilities. And, for the first time ever, three South African officials have been invited to officiate at the Beijing paralympics.
