June 26 the news was announced that he shall be allowed extra time to qualify for the Beijing Olympics. He had previously said that although he was working hard towards making the Olympic team, it may not be a realistic goal. His manager, Peet van Zyl, said on Thursday that the deadline of July 11 had been extended to July 17 allowing time for Oscar to accomplish the 400 meter qualifying time of 45.55 at the four remaining European races.
