“O&P Healthcare in Africa” is the theme for this year’s SAOPA Congress, which will be hosted at The Lord Charles Hotel, on the outskirts of beautiful Somerset West, from Sunday, 8th November, to Wednesday, 11th November, 2009.
Topping the guest list is ISPO President Dan Blocka, who will be attending the inaugural AGM of the recently formed ISPO South Africa Branch of the International Society for Prosthetists and Orthotists.
Blocka will be accompanied by several of his colleagues. The SA branch of the society, administered by SAOPA, already has over 100 members.
International speakers will also feature on the three day programme and the “Call for papers” deadline for submissions is Tuesday, 15th September.
Applications will be scrutinized by Jacques Swanepoel and the team at T.U.T, where-after the Congress programme will be finalised. The Congress will have an academic focus, balanced with practical applications, looking at creative solutions and new techniques and technology.
The local Congress organizing committee, headed up by Jonathan de Villiers, is hard at work preparing for the expected 180 delegates and 30 exhibitors.
Delegates can expect some dual sessions as the committee aims to pack in plenty of top class presentations, and participants should be able to accumulate at least 20 CPD points. Several suppliers are also considering hosting workshops on the Sunday, before the official start of the Congress.
Thirty exhibition stands will be alongside the plenary area and the cost of a 3m x 3m exhibition stand is R7500 for the three days. Bookings can be made with the SAOPA office. The expo will be open to the general public on the Monday afternoon, from 3pm to 5pm.
Registration for the Congress will be from 2pm to 5pm on Sunday, 8th November, followed by an informal opening function at the hotel, from 6pm. The Congress opens on Monday morning, 9th November, with a full programme to 6pm, followed by a social function.
Two important Congress meetings will be the AGM’s of the two organizations on Monday afternoon, 9th November. The SAOPA AGM will be from 3pm to 5pm, followed by the ISPO SA AGM from 5pm to 6pm.
Tuesday, 10th November, will be a full day of lectures and workshops, with the Expo all day, followed by the formal SAOPA Gala dinner and awards function from 7pm, at the hotel. The Congress concludes at 1pm on Wednesday, 11th November.
Suppliers and companies that would like to be profiled or involved during the Congress are invited to contact the SAOPA office. The Delegate registration form and the Exhibitor registration form are also available from the SAOPA office.
